Eras, Energy & Community Spirit

Residents of Forest Lake Estates are finding plenty to sing about thanks to a weekly music bingo event. Hosted by Jake Smith of Archwell Clinic, each week, Jake brings music from different eras, a table full of prizes, and an upbeat atmosphere that keeps residents guessing, laughing, and sometimes jamming along to the songs as they play. Every song played has its own charm, while others may leave a few out, making each round unpredictable. As Jake plays each selection, residents identify the title and artist, then mark their cards. The first person to complete a bingo gets to choose a prize from the table, which recently included a craft, a game called Date Night Scratch Off. Imagine those dates!

One table of residents is raring to go and win those prizes. The game is simple, but the fun comes from the music and the memories. Participants receive bingo sheets filled with song titles and artists. Some sheets may include beloved songs from the 1950s and 1960s, including Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” The song was so familiar that residents called out the answer together in near-perfect synchronicity. Game Two moved into country classics such as Dolly Parton’s “Jolene,” Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire,” and Kenny Rogers’ “The Gambler.” Once the answers are called, the bingo cards decide where the wins fall.

Game Three brought a lively Motown feel with upbeat selections including Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition,” Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On,” and Otis Redding’s “Sitting’ on the Dock of the Bay.” After the third game, residents took a break for a surprise presentation. Jake opened an envelope, then read a letter written by Social Director Lorri Jackson. In the letter, Lorri thanked Jake for “bringing life, love, and dedication” to the community.

Jake’s weekly visits have become more than an activity—they are a reminder of the community spirit that makes this lifestyle worth living. ♥
