Pasco County Park featured in the FDOT’s America 250 Road Trip. Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park in Pasco County has been added to Road Trip Florida, the Florida Department of Transportation’s celebration of America 250.
As part of the tribute, FDOT installed a new historical marker at the park, joining markers placed at notable sites across the state, with at least one marker in every county. The marker portrays Werner-Boyce Salt Springs as a tranquil preserve that highlights Florida’s wilder side.
Located just west of the busy U.S. 19 corridor in west Pasco County, the park features mangrove forests, winding waterways, and miles of pristine coastline. Paul Herman, a historian with the West Pasco Historical Society, notes that the park provides a natural escape from urban life, offering visitors a chance to connect with nature.
He has written a history of the area, The History of Seven Springs, and says the park embodies a facet of Florida that is becoming increasingly scarce. “Even though you’re only a short distance from the highway, it feels like you’re deep in the wilderness,” Herman observed.
The park’s secluded ambiance offers a glimpse of Old Florida while it is nestled in one of the state’s fastest-growing regions, a fact Herman says makes Werner-Boyce particularly fortunate for Pasco County. In addition to its natural appeal, the site is popular for kayaking and other outdoor activities.
