Lions Club Hosts First Annual Tea Party Fundraiser

Creativity and CommunitySupport for Sight Programs and Freedom Guide Dogs

By Susan Slater

TheZephyrhills Lions Club gathered with the community and members from other clubs for its first annual Tea Party fundraiser. The event was dedicated to supporting sight programs and the remarkable work of Freedom Guide Dogs. This festive gathering not only raised vital funds for these life-changing causes but also showcased the best of creativity, generosity, and community spirit.

One of the highlights of the Tea Party was the array of themed table decorations done by attendees and Lions volunteers. A vibrant “Grinch” themed table was decorated with whimsical green accents, playful decorations, and a great tribute to the beloved Dr. Seuss character. The ladies referred toit as “organized silliness.”Other table designs ranged from floral arrangements to literary-inspired settings, each crafted with imagination and skill by club members and community attendees.

The Tea Party also the had participation of local vendors and organizations with unique items from local authors and crafters, baker, handmade treasures and inspirational reads. The presence of Vets Feeding Vets and The Lighthouse provided guests with opportunities to learn about and support for other meaningful initiatives in the area. The Lighthouse offered you a card with your name in braille.

No tea party would be complete without delectable food and drinks, and the Lions Club’s event delivered in style. Guests were treated to a selection of delicate finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones, and an assortment of sweets, all handmade by the members and beautifully presented. The tea menu featured classic blends and herbal varieties on the main table.

The success of the Tea Party was truly a testament to the dedication and teamwork of the Lions Club volunteers. Local service groups, civic organizations, like the Girl Scouts, JROTC and a Dance Club pitched in to serve food, set up tables, and assist guests throughout the afternoon. The event drew a diverse crowd of attendees, from Lions Club supporters to first-time visitors, all united for the cause. The volunteers worked tirelessly behind the scenes, focusing on every detail, large and small.

Throughout the afternoon, guests participated in a variety of fundraising activities likeraffles for gift baskets and drawings. A clear and simple donation process made it easy for attendees to contribute directly to sight programs and Freedom GuideDogs.

Two of the most moving moments of the Tea Party was a dramatization of Helen Keller’s story, performed by Lions Club members, who brought to life Keller’s indomitable spirit and her connection to the Lions Club’s mission. Musical performances by Rodney Beuno from the Wesley Chapel Theater Group added more emotion to the event, while heartfelt letters from program beneficiaries offered a powerful reminder of the impact of community support.

Awards were presented for best table by guest judges and people’s choice recognizing the creativity and effort that made the day so memorable. More importantly, the event raised significant funds to advance sight programs and provide guide dogs—initiatives that restore independence and confidence to individuals with visual impairments. The warm and celebratory atmosphere left guests feeling connected, inspired, and eager to support future Lions Club endeavors.

On behalf of the Lions Club heartfelt thanks

extend to everyone who attended, volunteered, or who donated. This joyous event demonstrated the power of community working together for a common good. With continued support, the Lions Club remains steadfast in its mission to serve, empower, and bring hope one cup of tea at a time.
